Through this program, our skilled staff members quickly and professionally meet the needs of senior adults who require acute, short-term inpatient assessment and treatment.
The decision to place a loved one in geropsychiatric care is always difficult. Our health care team understands that difficulty, and we encourage family involvement in patient care. We strongly believe that a supportive, family-oriented environment is one of the first steps to successful treatment.
Access to geropsychiatric care requires only one call to hospital triage (252-847-8791). Once the patient is admitted, our staff will arrange an assessment and a treatment program. We accept involuntary commitments.
Our Geropsychiatric Program includes:
- Separate, 14-bed unit
- Full assessment
- Medication management and adjustment
- Interdisciplinary approach
- 7-day programming
- Educational groups, including assertiveness, self-esteem, co-dependency, discharge planning, grief/loss, stress management, substance abuse, anger management and group therapy
- Spirituality groups
- Social work
- Reality orientation
- Sensory stimulation
- Activities of daily living
- Pharmacist involvement
- Recreational therapy
- Occupational therapy
Depending on the patient’s level of function, he or she may also participate in animal-assisted therapy, exercise/aquatic therapy and community re-entry.
We have someone available to answer your needs quickly. Call our triage office at 252-847-8791 or page 252-413-4117, and a psychiatric triage counselor will respond in 15 minutes or less.
