The promise to ensure the best possible future for our children is driving the Children's Hospital Addition scheduled to open in 2013. A key focus in the concept and design of this project is on creating an environment conducive to patient- and family-centered care. This philosophy has been a guiding force behind pediatric care at Vidant Children's Hospital for many years, providing children and families with a healing environment built on evidence-based practices for quality and safe care.
Patient- and Family-Centered Care
Vidant Children's Hospital believes that every child has the right to be as healthy as possible. We have a family-centered approach to pediatric care that relies on family participation to promote the health of the child. We are the only hospital in eastern North Carolina designed especially for pediatric patients. Vidant Children's Hospital is part of Vidant Medical Center, the teaching hospital for Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, providing care to 29 counties in eastern North Carolina. Our pediatricians, pediatric specialists, surgeons, and residents provide outstanding healthcare to our patients. Our clinical team includes nurse practitioners, nurses, therapists, and child life specialists all dedicated to the well being of children. We are the regional center for high-risk mothers and infants and our hospital is equipped and staffed to handle pediatric needs for the tiniest premature infant to the high school student. We offer neonatal and pediatric intensive care, pediatric rehabilitation, general pediatric medical and surgical services, and education and support to meet the needs of the entire family.
Our children's hospital provides outstanding care and education within the community promoting wellness and managing chronic disease. The pediatric outpatient center at Brody School of Medicine receives nearly 60,000 patient visits annually.
