Trauma is a sudden, serious, sometimes life-threatening injury that requires immediate and highly skilled medical attention.
Level I Trauma Center
The Level I designation means that this trauma center conforms to the highest national and state standards for trauma care. The Trauma Center regularly provides education and support to other hospitals and to local rescue squads. As the Level I Trauma center for eastern North Carolina, this center is responsible for the development and maintenance of a coordinated trauma system in the region and is the site of the Eastern Regional Advisory Committee (ERAC). The hospitals affiliated with ERAC work with Vidant Medical Center to plan, implement and evaluate the care of injured patients in eastern North Carolina.
Neurosurgery and Trauma ICU
A patient may be admitted to the trauma or neurosurgery intensive care unit after treatment in the Emergency Department or operating room. We have an eight-bed neurosurgery ICU and an eight-bed trauma ICU.

The Burn Outpatient Service treats patients with minor burn injuries in Pitt County. The clinic is located in the hospital and typically sees patients on Mondays and Thursdays. For more information, please call 252-847-4299.
