Allowing you to experience a painless procedure.

You will receive anesthesia for any procedure performed at the SurgiCenter. The specific type of anesthesia will be determined by your surgeon and the anesthesiologist. Anesthesia can be divided into four different types:

Local anesthesia
Your surgeon will provide you with light oral or intravenous sedation along with a local anesthetic to make the surgical site painless. You will be awake but drowsy during the procedure but have no pain with the procedure. Your recovery will be rapid with little or no lingering effects after you leave the facility.

Sedation or Monitored Anesthesia Care
With this type of anesthesia, you will receive an intravenous anesthetic agent provided by an anesthesia team. This anesthesia provides a much deeper type of sleep than local anesthesia with little chance of recall once the procedure has started. Your vital signs and breathing will be monitored by the anesthesia team during the procedure. The deep sleep is only required during the procedure and quickly wears off once the procedure is complete. You may be sleepy for a short time after your discharge, but you will quickly recover.

Regional
During this type of anesthesia, a specific part of your body will be put to sleep by an anesthesiologist. The most common type of regional anesthesia is a spinal block, but other types are possible. Patients who receive a regional anesthetic will also receive intravenous sedation to provide sleep during the actual procedure. Once the procedure is complete the sedation will be stopped. The local anesthesia will wear off while you are in the recovery room and be dissolved by the time you are discharged.

General
General anesthesia is the most common type of anesthesia provided. In general anesthesia you are put into a very deep sleep using intravenous medication and specialized anesthesia gasses provided by your anesthesia team. During general anesthesia, your vitals will be monitored by your anesthesia team. You will have no recall of the procedure once the anesthesia is given. Even though general anesthesia is short-lived, you may be sleepy for several hours after discharge from the facility.

Nerve Block
No matter the type of anesthesia you receive, your surgeon may ask the anesthesiologist to provide an injection or catheter to provide you with extended pain relief after you leave the facility. The specific nerve block and the effects that you can expect will be discussed with you on the day of your procedure.
