Why ECU Health Pulmonology & Respiratory Services?

Our pulmonary experts work with primary care, lab, heart and imaging specialists to correctly diagnose and treat your respiratory issues.

Many respiratory issues require ongoing care. From doctor visits and testing to inpatient stays, outpatient rehabilitation and support groups, you won’t go through this alone. We provide education on how to eat right, exercise, quit smoking and other measures to help you manage your lung disease.

Our online patient portal makes it easy for you and your care team to review important health information, request prescription refills, view lab results, request appointments, access follow-up care, send a message to your doctor and much more.

Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Rehab

Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Rehabilitation will help create your path forward. You will gain a better understanding of your condition and what you can do to optimize your health. You’ll learn how to cope with your diagnosis, lower your risk of future issues and return to an active, productive life.

Your rehab team includes respiratory therapists, registered nurses, exercise professionals, dietitians and a medical director. The program gives you the chance to interact with others who share similar journeys. We will communicate your progress with your doctors as well. Most insurance companies will cover most, if not all, of our services.

Respiratory Care

A patient is observed by a health care provider.

The Respiratory Care department provides patient care for all age groups in all areas of the hospital. They deliver breathing treatments, including inhaled medications, as well as lung clearing and lifesaving procedures, such as breathing tube insertion and maintenance, are just some of the services provided. Your respiratory therapist works with your doctor when starting, maintaining and adjusting breathing machines to assure the proper levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide in your blood.

Your respiratory therapist is licensed by the State of North Carolina to perform procedures for patients of all ages, from newborns to seniors. All ECU Health respiratory care practitioners are nationally boarded as registered respiratory therapists.
