Some medical emergencies require advanced specialty care. For those living in eastern North Carolina, you have quick access to our Level I Adult Trauma Center and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.

When to Visit the Emergency Department

Knowing when to visit the emergency department (ED) versus when to use other quality care options from ECU Health is half the battle. If you are experiencing any of the following, seek emergency medical care at your closest ECU Health emergency room or call 9-1-1:

  • Drug/alcohol overdose
  • Poisoning
  • Seizure
  • Serious burns
  • Severe allergic reaction
  • Stroke
  • Sudden dizziness
  • Trouble breathing

When to Visit ECU Health Immediate Care

If you are experiencing an illness or injury that is not life-threatening — but shouldn’t wait for a scheduled appointment with your primary care provider, immediate (or urgent) care may be the answer. Visit one of our six ECU Health Immediate Care facilities below, or you may be able to use ECU Health’s online platform, ECU HealthNow (Apple | Android).
