When to Visit the Emergency Department

Knowing when to visit the emergency department (ED) versus when to use other quality care options from ECU Health is half the battle. If you are experiencing any of the following, seek emergency medical care at your closest ECU Health emergency room or call 9-1-1:

  • Drug/alcohol overdose
  • Poisoning
  • Seizure
  • Serious burns

When to Visit ECU Health Immediate Care

If you are experiencing an illness or injury that is not life-threatening — but shouldn’t wait for a scheduled appointment with your primary care provider, immediate (or urgent) care may be the answer.
