There is an emergency department available 24/7 at each Vidant Health hospital. That’s eight hospital locations across eastern North Carolina. As a Level I Trauma Center, the Vidant Medical Center emergency department in Greenville provides additional comprehensive resources and is capable of providing total care for every aspect of traumatic injury — from prevention through rehabilitation. And for children under age 18, you’ll find specialized emergency care and a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center at the dedicated children’s emergency department at Vidant Medical Center.

Emergency departments are staffed with specialty trained doctors, nurses and other health professionals who have access to advanced technology. We are always ready to diagnose and care for emergency conditions.

Why Vidant Emergency & Trauma?

Our eight hospital locations across eastern North Carolina provide emergency care when and where you need it. Our children’s emergency department at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville is specifically staffed and equipped for the care of children up to age 18.

Only six hospitals in North Carolina have earned Level I trauma center status. Vidant Medical Center has been designated as a trauma center by the state since 1983 and was verified by the American College of Surgeons as a Level I adult trauma center in 2005. Our children’s emergency department is a Level II pediatric trauma center as well.

We are the region’s only transport service recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS).

Trauma Care

Some emergencies require advanced specialty care. At Vidant, we have quick access to a Level I Adult Trauma Center and a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center.
