Robotic Surgery

Expert surgeons at Vidant Medical Center offer a range of procedures using the state-of-the-art da Vinci Surgical System, a technologically advanced robot that allows the surgeon to perform delicate operations with a high degree of precision.

Anyone who has had traditional surgery knows that recovery takes time and can be painful. Robotic surgery, like other minimally invasive surgical techniques, requires smaller incisions, so patients typically experience less pain and recover more quickly.

Practicing at the largest robotics center in the Southeast, surgeons at Vidant Medical Center and the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University are considered pioneers in robotic surgery. More than a decade ago, cardiothoracic surgeons here were the first in the nation to perform robot-assisted mitral valve repair. Since then, the robotic surgery program has expanded to include urology, gynecology, thoracic surgery and some general surgery procedures.

Not only is Greenville a premier patient care destination, but more than a thousand surgeons have come from all over the world to be trained at ECU’s Robotic Research and Training Center in how to use the robotic surgical system.
