Navigating your hospital bill.

If you have been a patient at a Vidant Health hospital or Vidant SurgiCenter, you will receive a statement within 30 days of your date of service. If you have health insurance, the first mailing you receive will be a financial statement – not a bill – showing what Vidant has billed to your insurance carrier. Once your insurance company responds, usually within 30 days of receiving our statement, you will receive a bill outlining your remaining financial responsibility, if any.

Patients without insurance coverage will receive a bill directly from Vidant for your hospital or surgery services.

Please note that you will receive a separate bill from physicians for their professional fees. If you have questions about these bills, please contact your physician’s office.

Reading Your Statement

This sample statement provides details of charges for services you received and lists the insurance company or companies that have been billed, based on information you provided. Account information is always located in the upper right corner. The name of the hospital where you received services will always appear in the upper left corner. You are not expected to pay anything until your insurance company has processed your claims.

Reading Your Bill

This sample statement shows a hospital bill detailing the amount owed to the hospital. It is clearly labeled “Hospital Bill.” In this case, the bill shows how much your insurance has already paid and the balance for which you are responsible. If you do not have health insurance, the “description of services” area will detail all of the charges you incurred.
