Quality at Vidant Health

We are committed to providing a safe and harm-free environment for patients. The optimal care data is based on national standards that measure whether or not patients receive all recommended treatments for certain conditions.

What is optimal care?

Optimal care shows how often hospitals give all recommended treatments known to get the best results for patients with certain medical conditions or surgical procedures. Information about these treatments are taken from the  patients’ records and converted into a percentage. This is one way to compare  the quality of care that hospitals give.

What is the source of this data?

Hospital Compare provides measures that are based on data from hospital's patient records. Hospital Compare displays rates for Process of Care measures that show whether or not hospitals provide some of the care that is recommended for patients being treated for certain conditions or illnesses. Hospitals voluntarily submit data from medical records about the treatments their patients receive for these conditions.
