    East Carolina Endoscopy Center

East Carolina Endoscopy Center provides outpatient endoscopy procedures in a safe, comfortable and convenient setting. Endoscopies are procedures that diagnose and treat gastrointestinal conditions such as colon cancer. Physicians are able to look inside the body using a tiny camera housed in a small flexible tube and inserted through the mouth or rectum.

East Carolina Endoscopy Center is a joint venture between the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University and Vidant Medical Center. East Carolina Endoscopy Center is a licensed ambulatory surgery center accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.

    Services provided include:

    Upper endoscopies
    Colonoscopies
    Flexible sigmoidoscopies
    Treatment for acid reflux
    Peg/pej tube placement

    Fast recovery

In addition to skilled physicians and nurses, the center provides individualized anesthesia care by certified registered nurse anesthetists. This type anesthesia reduces recovery time to minutes instead of hours. Traditional anesthesia may cause drowsiness, but our medications leave the body immediately after your procedure.

    Convenient location

The center is conveniently located at 521 Moye Boulevard across from the medical school with parking available in front of the building. The center has three procedure rooms and a dozen preparatory/recovery rooms.

Colonoscopy is the first step to prevent death from colorectal cancer

Colon and rectal cancer claims nearly 50,000 lives every year, but it’s also preventable and easily treated if detected early. If you are 50 or older or have a family history of colon cancer, schedule a preventive screening today. Most medical plans cover the cost.

Colon cancer presents few symptoms in the early, treatable stages. Some people with colorectal polyps or colorectal cancer do have symptoms. See your doctor right away if you are experiencing any of these:
Rectal bleeding or blood in or on the stool
Change in bowel habits or stools that are narrower than usual
Stomach discomfort (bloating, fullness or cramps)
Weight loss for no apparent reason
    Tiredness
    Vomiting
