Complex Multidisciplinary Back Pain Program
If you have chronic back pain, it is important to learn how to cope with it to improve your quality of life. A multidisciplinary approach combines multiple therapies, giving you the necessary skills, medical treatment and direction to effectively cope with your back pain.
A successful program will include a variety of specialists, including some or all of the following:
- Physician: neurologist, psychiatrist, physiatrist (PMR or Rehabilitation Medicine), or anesthesiologist
- Registered nurse
- Psychologist
- Physical and Occupational Therapist
- Biofeedback therapist
- Family and Vocational counselor
Effective multidisciplinary back pain programs should give you access to most of these treatments:
- Biofeedback training
- Occupational and Physical Therapy
- Relaxation training and stress management
- Group therapy and Family Counseling
- Regional anesthesia (nerve blocks)
- After care (follow-up support after program)
