Gait Analysis

Gait is a person’s manner of walking. It includes such factors as rhythm, step length, stride length, and speed. Gait analysis is the detailed observation of how you stand and walk. It can identify the cause and the severity of pain or other problems with bones, muscles, nerves or joints.

A gait analysis is done while you stand and walk. During this time, various computerized tests measure things like your walking pattern and the amount of force and pressure exerted with each step. These measurements will be combined with the doctor's physical exam and other tests to determine the problem and the recommended treatment. You may also be videotaped while walking as part of gait analysis testing.
