MERCI Device

The Mechanical Embolus Removal in Cerebral Ischemia (MERCI) retrieval system is used to treat stroke. The MERCI device can be used to clear clots out of a patient’s blood vessel.

During a MERCI procedure, the device is inserted into the femoral artery in a patient’s leg and passed up to the site of the clot in the brain. Using the device, the health care provider pulls the clot carefully out of the blood vessel and removes it.
