Women have unique health needs that change throughout their lifetime. At Vidant Health, we understand women’s health and have teams across the region who are trained to provide expert, compassionate care for all stages of life. From family planning and maternity care to heart health and menopause management, we've got you covered.

Women all across eastern North Carolina have access to the care they need from our regional family practices, as well as inpatient and outpatient services at Vidant hospitals. We offer digital mammography, full gynecological care and bone density testing. Community health screenings and educational events spotlighting women’s health issues, including breast and other cancers and heart disease, are held on a regular basis.

Pregnant or thinking about having a baby?

For women of childbearing years, we offer quality prenatal care and childbirth services. Every hospital in the region – except Vidant Bertie Hospital in Windsor – delivers babies. Vidant Medical Center in Greenville is the regional referral center for high-risk pregnancies, and James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital at Vidant Medical Center is the only Level IV neonatal intensive care unit in eastern North Carolina. Vidant Edgecombe Hospital in Tarboro is home to a Level II intermediate care nursery.

Special resources for our expectant mothers include:

  • The Gift of Motherhood eLearning site offers online childbirth education classes and valuable information about pregnancy, childbirth and baby care all at no cost to you. Visit the online site and use the code VIDANTBABY to access these resources.
  • The Birth Information Worksheet documents all of the information you need to have your child’s birth certificate created. You can fill it out in advance and bring it with you to the hospital.
  • Birth Plan allows you to share your wishes and preferences for your labor, delivery and time immediately after.
  • Pre-register online to save time when you arrive to have your baby. Complete this simple form by your 28th week of pregnancy, and we will contact you to finish the registration process.

Why Vidant?

  • Here, your family is always welcome. We understand the importance of your family and encourage their participation in your care.
  • Vidant Medical Center is Baby-Friendly. This means Vidant Medical Center offers breastfeeding mothers the information, confidence and skills needed to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies. But no matter which Vidant hospital delivers your baby, you can count on high-quality care throughout your pregnancy and delivery, including the chance to create your own birth plan.
  • We're here for the long haul. We love babies, but we provide so much more for women. We are equipped to handle any female health care need, no matter your age.
  • Digital mammography is standard here. Your doctor doesn't have to order a 2D or 3D mammogram because it's the norm here. State-of-the-art technology allows for quicker, more comfortable exams. And doctors get to see more precise images of your breasts, which helps detect even the smallest of tumors.
