Palliative care

The goal of palliative care is to help patients get relief from the pain, symptoms and side effects of a serious illness. Vidant Health offers this service to children and adults at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

You can be placed in palliative care at the same time you are undergoing treatments for your illness or disease. This is what makes palliative care different from hospice care.

Your primary care doctor, if you have one, will always be involved in your care. Other specialists and experienced palliative care providers will be added to your team as needs arise. Your team will make sure you understand your condition and your options. Everyone will work closely together to understand your wishes. Our goal is to simply lessen your pain - physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Why Vidant?

  • Volunteers are here just for you. Specially trained volunteers provide visitation and/or respite services for the patients and families referred to palliative care services.
  • We listen. Tell us what is important to you. We want to know.
  • Advance care education is important. If you have a living will or other advance directives, we'll make sure they are scanned into your health record. If you need these documents prepared, we'll help with that too.
  • It's not just physical. We have resources to help with emotional and spiritual issues. Just ask.
