Eastern North Carolina has a very high number of adults and children who are overweight. That leads to many health problems, including diabetes and metabolic syndrome. The good news is, obesity is a disease that can be treated.

Bariatric experts at Vidant Health offer both non-surgical and surgical options to help you get healthier. We will work together to create a care plan that is right for you.

If you and your health care team decide that weight-loss surgery is right for you, you will be treated by one of our six bariatric surgeons. We perform laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and roux-en-y gastric bypass. You will recover in a 28-bed unit specifically for bariatric patients.

  • Here, we’re a team. Many times, patients have health problems caused by obesity and may be under the care of a specialist. That’s ok. We’ll work together to make sure everyone is on the same page and working toward the same goal – a healthier you.
  • If you need surgery, you’re in good hands. Our surgeons are pioneers in bariatric surgery. And you don’t just have surgery and go home. You get a personalized, comprehensive program that extends beyond surgery to help ensure you get the best results possible. Hear from some of our patients.
