Mental Status Change

A person’s mental status – their level of awareness and interaction with their surroundings – can change during certain situations or if they are suffering from a number of conditions.

Signs of a mental status change include confusion, memory loss, lapse in judgment, inability to control emotions or just strange behavior.

An altered mental status may be the sign of an emotional or psychiatric condition or a medical condition or injury that has caused damage to the brain.

A neurological exam and other neurological tests may be ordered to figure out the cause of the mental status change.
