Down East ALS Support Group

For people with Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS), their families and caregivers. Meets the third Wednesday of each month from 5:30 – 7:00 pm in the Vidant Rehabilitation Classroom, 2100 Stantonsburg Road. For more information, call 877-257-7401, ext. 709 or email

Disability Advocates and Resource Center

Provides independent living skills training, advocacy, information, referral and peer mentoring. Helps people apply for social security, SSI, SSDI and Medicaid. The center also operates a medical locker. You can donate or borrow gently used wheelchairs, canes, crutches and other medical equipment. Call 252-355-6215.

Support Team For Active Recreation (STAR)

Formerly Spinal Cord Injury Association Provides social, recreational and educational opportunities for individuals with physical disabilities. Meets fourth Monday of the month at 5:30 pm at the Rehabilitation Center library at Vidant Medical Center. Call 252-847-4400.
