Vidant Home Health and Hospice expands into Duplin County effective Nov. 1

November 02, 2015 by Beth Anne Atkins

GREENVILLE — Officials with Vidant Health and Carolina East Home Care and Hospice have finalized the deal that allows Vidant to acquire the agency and expand its home health and hospice services into Duplin County.

“Carolina East has been investigating opportunities for partnerships with other health care providers over the last year,” said Lynn Hardy, former president/CEO, Carolina East Home Care and Hospice. “We are excited that Vidant is allowing these services to continue in this region. They have experience in all areas of service we provide and have the same mission of serving the community with quality patient care.”

Vidant will operate the agency’s home-based services through its subsidiary Vidant Home Health and Hospice. Services provided include home health, home hospice, Community Alternatives Programs, telehealth, and transitional care. Vidant Home Health and Hospice has five office locations and serves 19 eastern North Carolina counties.

“The consistency between Carolina East Home Care and Hospice and Vidant Home Health and Hospice service lines and missions allows for seamless transition for patients, staff, providers and the community,” said Dr. Joan Wynn, president, Vidant Home Health and Hospice. “As an operator of certified home health and hospice agencies for 30 years, we are proud of the care we provide to the residents of this region and are excited to expand our home health and hospice services to Duplin County and surrounding areas.”

Earlier this year, Carolina East Home Care and Hospice closed the inpatient portion of the facility due to extremely low volumes and other market forces. Vidant has no plans to reopen the inpatient facility.

“By acquiring this agency, we are able to expand our capabilities of care coordination and transitional care while bringing system resources such as specialists and clinical experts to support care delivery for complex patients in this region,” said Jay Briley, president, Vidant Duplin Hospital. “We are excited about the infrastructure we are adding to our network.”

Vidant Home Health and Hospice is Medicare-certified, with locations in Greenville, Washington, Windsor, Ahoskie and Kenansville, including the Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice.
