Vidant Home Health and Hospice earns 5 stars for patient experience

March 16, 2016 posted by Amy Holcombe

Greenville- Vidant Home Health and Hospice received five stars for patient experience for home health care through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Vidant home Health offices in Greenville, Washington and Windsor all achieved the highest possible five star ranking. These scores are based on surveys of patients or their families about the care provided by the agency.

"It is an honor for us to know that our patients rated their experience with Vidant Home Health and Hospice at the highest level," said Joan Wynn, president of Vidant Home Health and Hospice. "We consider it a privilege to be invited into a patient's home to care for them and we want to assure they get the best care and have the best experience possible."

CMS introduced the first patient experience of care star ratings Jan. 28, 2016, on Home Health Compare. Home Health Compare is the CMS public information website that provides information on how well Medicare-certified agencies provide care to their patients. The new star ratings report patients' experiences of care ranging from one star to five stars using data reported from patients that have been treated by the agency. Five stars is the highest rating and reflects the best patient experience.

Home Health Compare helps patients and their families make more informed health care decisions about the agency they choose. The two types of star ratings for the Home Health Compare program include:

  • Patient Survey Star Rating - a snapshot of 4 measures of patient experience based on patients surveyed through Home Health Care Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HHCAHPS).
  • Quality of Patient Care Star Rating - is based on nine quality care measures that indicate how well they assist their patients in regaining or maintaining important functional abilities and how frequently they adhere to evidence-based processes of care.

Vidant Home Health and Hospice has locations in Greenville, Washington, Windsor, Ahoskie and Kenansville, including the Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice, serving patients and families in 19 counties in eastern North Carolina.
