Vidant Health welcomes new cancer physician to Ahoskie, Edenton

GREENVILLE, NC – Dr. Michael Hopkins, a fellowship-trained cancer specialist, has begun offering expertise in hematology and oncology at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital and Vidant Chowan Hospital.

Dr. Hopkins earned his medical degree at Chicago Medical School. He completed an internship at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Portsmouth, Virginia, followed by flight surgery training at Naval Aerospace Medical Institute. After serving as a naval flight surgeon, he did his internal medicine training at Naval Medical Center San Diego. He completed a hematology/oncology fellowship at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, California.

Dr. Hopkins specializes in all areas of blood and cancer disorders. He is board certified in hematology and oncology. After 20 years of Naval service, he said he is pleased to care for the people of northeastern North Carolina. 

He will practice in two newly renovated facilities: Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital Cancer Care and Hematology Services, located at 500 South Academy Street, Ahoskie, and Vidant Chowan Hospital Outpatient Services Center, located at 211 Virginia Road, Edenton. He will join Dr. Jorge Abdallah and Dr. Darla Liles in the Ahoskie practice and Dr. Gohar Arslan in the Edenton practice. Clinic hours are from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm weekdays in Ahoskie; 8:00 am to 4:00 pm weekdays in Edenton.
