GREENVILLE, NC - Vidant Medical Center Sleep Center in Greenville recently received program reaccreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).

To receive reaccreditation for a five-year period, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. These standards address core areas such as personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition, patient care, and quality assurance. Additionally, the sleep center’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.

"This five-year accreditation acknowledges the Vidant Sleep Center's mission to provide the best clinical care for sleep medicine patients,” said Dr. John Gibbs III, VMC Sleep Center Medical Director.” Dr. Ronald Perkin, pediatric sleep physician, added, “This accreditation is the gold-standard by which the medical community and public can evaluate any sleep service. The AASM standards for accreditation ensure the highest quality in patient-centered care which is in line with what Vidant strives for at all of its centers.”

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine accredited a sleep disorders center for the first time in 1977. Today there are more than 2,500 AASM-accredited sleep centers across the country.

Vidant Medical Center Sleep Center is directed by Dr. Gibbs and is located at 2100 Stantonsburg Road, #4 Doctor's Park.
