Vidant Health encourages everyone to “Love Your Heart”

February 01, 2017 by Beth Anne Atkins

GREENVILLE, NC – February is American Heart Month, and Vidant Health is encouraging everyone in eastern North Carolina to “Love Your Heart.” Heart disease and stroke cause one in three deaths among women in the U.S. each year, killing approximately one woman every 80 seconds.

The month kicks off with National Wear Red Day on Friday, Feb. 3. Show support for women with heart disease and stroke by wearing a favorite red dress, shirt, tie or accessory.

The East Carolina Heart Institute at Vidant Medical Center will be holding a special wear red event for employees and visitors on Friday, Feb. 3, from 11 a.m. – 1p.m. in the ECHI lobby. Come by and get a treat, pick up heart health information, or get a free heart health screening. Attendees can also register to win a gift bag with a heart healthy cookbook.

New this year is the Love Your Heart Challenge. Stop and take a picture at the photo booth to post on social media. Those who can’t stop by are encouraged to take a photo for Wear Red Day, and post on the Vidant Health Facebook page or tag the Vidant Health Twitter account (@Vidant_Health) using the hashtags #VidantHeart and #LoveYourHeart.

Throughout February, Vidant Health is hosting Heart Truth tour events across eastern North Carolina. Zonya Foco, America’s Nutrition Leader, has an energetic style while talking about her tips for healthy eating, exercise, stress management and more lifestyle choices and changes for optimal heart health.
