Vidant Health board announces winners of quality leadership award

May 05, 2015 by Beth Anne Atkins

Earlier this year, the Vidant Health Board of Directors announced a new quality award to be given by the board that would recognize and reward front-line teams across the health system that are leading the way to the ultimate goal of zero events of harm and exceptional patient experiences for every patient served. One winner was selected from each of these groups: Vidant Medical Center, Vidant Community Hospitals and the ambulatory setting.

“As a board, we felt like this was something we should do to encourage and value our clinical teams that are working so hard to provide improved outcomes for our patients,” said Dr. Marcus Albernaz, chairman, Vidant Health Board of Directors. “There is a tremendous amount of excellent work happening across our system, and it needs to be recognized.”

Twenty nominations describing front-line improvement projects were reviewed.

“The board award committee was very impressed with the caliber of work that was outlined in the nominations and had a very difficult time determining the winners,” said Dr. Albernaz.

The winning teams are:
1. Vidant Medical Center – the SICU Team for its work to eliminate central line associated blood stream infections
2. Vidant Community Hospitals – the Vidant Edgecombe team for its work to eliminate catheter associated urinary tract infections
3. For the ambulatory setting – the HealthAccess team for its work to reduce avoidable readmissions through care transition and care coordination

Winners will be honored at the May 26 Vidant Health Board meeting.
