Statement about health care services in Beaufort and Hyde counties

November 25, 2013 by Corporate Communications

Statement from Roger Robertson, President, Vidant Community Hospitals:

The Vidant Pungo Hospital Board of Directors voted in September to move forward with plans to provide sustainable health care by building a new 24/7 multispecialty care clinic to serve eastern Beaufort and Hyde counties. The plans include closing Vidant Pungo Hospital which will take place over the next few months. Once the hospital closes, 24-hour-care will be available at Vidant Family Medicine on Haslin Street in Belhaven. Vidant Health will continue to offer primary and specialty care at the Vidant Family Medicine locations on Allen and Water streets in Belhaven.

The new multispecialty clinic will offer primary and specialty care, urgent and emergent care 24-hours a day, and an adjacent helipad. The facility will treat patients regardless of their ability to pay. According to Vidant’s charity care policy, for those with the ability to pay, we will ask for partial payment at the time of service. We remain focused on working with any and all groups or organizations that are committed to finding the very best health care options for our citizens in eastern North Carolina.
