GREENVILLE— The Rehabilitation Center at Vidant Medical Center will hold the seventh annual “Run, Walk and Roll” race on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 8:30 a.m.

The 5K and one-mile event will take place on a course through downtown Greenville and East Carolina University. Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. at St. James United Methodist Church. The racecourse is USATF certified by and is suitable for wheelchairs, race chairs, and baby strollers. Registration and information available online at or call 252-847-0207

“We are thrilled to be sponsoring our seventh 5k and one-mile run,” said Dr. Daniel Moore, medical director of the rehabilitation center, and professor and chair of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. “This is a great opportunity to bring together former patients, families and staff to have fun and support a great cause.”

Latoya Foggs, the mother of 7-year-old Malachai Williams, said she hopes her son will be walking in time for the race. On March 22, Malachai suffered a traumatic brain injury when he was hit by a pick-up truck. Foggs describes her son’s progress as “miraculous,” and credits his recovery to the doctors and staff at the Rehabilitation Center.

Malachai continues with his outpatient rehabilitation and his mother says the treatment is working as his speech is improving. Foggs said she feels a lot better now about her son’s prognosis and that the race will be a milestone for little Malachai and his road to recovery.

Net proceeds from the race will benefit programs and services at the Rehabilitation Center at Vidant Medical Center.

Since 1977, the rehabilitation center has offered a wide range of integrated inpatient and outpatient programs. Through both a 75 -bed inpatient rehabilitation center, and four different outpatient locations, specialized care is provided for adults and children with stroke, spinal cord injury, acquired brain injury, orthopedic injuries, and neuromuscular disorders.
