New Chief of Staff named for Vidant Medical Center

GREENVILLE-Dr. Richard D’Alonzo has been named the Chief of Staff for Vidant Medical Center, effective Jan. 1, 2016. He has replaced Dr. Suzanne Kraemer who completed her one year appointment. 

The Chief of Staff represents the medical staff and works directly with Vidant Medical Center president Brian Floyd and Vidant Health CEO Dr. Michael Waldrum in all matters of mutual concern. The position is a one-year appointment elected by medical staff and rotates between private practice and ECU physicians. 

“I would like to thank Dr. Kraemer for her tremendous service during this last year,” said Floyd. “I’m thrilled to welcome Dr. D’Alonzo to the Chief of Staff position and look forward to working with him during the next 12 months.” 

Dr. D’Alonzo graduated from Saint Louis University Medical School in Saint Louis, Missouri with a combined MD/PhD degree in the department of Pharmacological and Physiological Sciences and as a member of the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his anesthesiology residency, served as chief resident, and completed a fellowship in cardiac anesthesia at Duke University. 

Dr. D’Alonzo is a diplomate in anesthesiology certified by the American Board of Anesthesia and is recognized as a fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography. He is an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiology, the American Society of Echocardiography, and is a published author in fields of anesthestic management and basic sciences. Dr. D’Alonzo currently is a partner at East Carolina Anesthesia Associates and an assistant clinical professor at East Carolina University. 

The Chief of Staff elect for Vidant Medical Center is Dr. Gregory Knapp with the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine.
