Jason Harrell to assume role as president of Vidant North Hospital

Roanoke Rapids, N.C. – August 10, 2020 Vidant Health is pleased to announce Jason Harrell, RN, MSN, ANP, CPHQ, will assume the president role at Vidant North Hospital effective August 31.

Harrell has spent more than 30 years in health care and has served as Vidant North’s vice president of patient care services since 2018. In this role, he has led and collaborated with clinical and operational leaders and teams on cultural care models, continuity of care, quality improvement efforts and physician and team member engagement. 

Harrell will assume the president role upon current president Will Mahone’s retirement.

I am excited to watch Vidant North’s continued growth under Jason’s leadership and want to thank Will for dedicating 15 years of his career to create a strong foundation upon which to build.”

Harrell, a native of Edgecombe County, has dedicated his career to improving the health and well-being of North Carolinians. Prior to joining Vidant North, Harrell served as senior director of clinical improvement for Novant Health, where his expertise was instrumental in the implementation of high-reliability strategies and operational efficiencies, including the management of vendor contracts and relations and team member recognition programs.

As president of Vidant North, Harrell will continue to focus on improving access to care and building high-quality clinical operations, including the new Vidant Cancer Care expansion at the hospital, which provides comprehensive cancer care to the community.

“I am grateful and humbled for the opportunity to continue to serve Roanoke Rapids and the surrounding communities, which I have come to know and love,” Harrell said. “Working alongside the care team at Vidant North Hospital for the past two years has been a highlight of my career. I look forward to continuing the legacy of providing excellent care to those who call the Valley home.”

In addition to his work in our region, Harrell spent time on medical mission teams in Ukraine, Zimbabwe and Haiti. He also served in the United States Air Force as an aerovac nurse and health care administrator.

Harrell earned his Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he graduated as an Adult Nurse Practitioner, specializing in cardiology. He has a Master of Science Certification in Executive Leadership in Healthcare Informatics from the University of Colorado, and also holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from East Carolina University.
