Harrell meets with Lake Gaston Ladies Club to discuss women's health

March 11, 2020 posted by Vidant Health News

Jason Harrell, vice president of patient care at Vidant North Hospital, recently visited the Lake Gaston Ladies Club to discuss women’s health and provide helpful information about care in the community.

Harrell said heart disease is typically not evaluated in the same way for women as men and is not recognized early enough in women. He encouraged women to seek treatment early to combat this and help them live healthier lives.

While women are often health care leaders in their families and make the important health care decisions, Harrell stressed the importance for women to look out for their own health. He encouraged healthy eating habits, getting exercise and drinking enough water. He also asked attendees to receive immunizations for illnesses like flu, pneumonia and shingles.

“You’ve really got to be good communicators with your health provider,” Harrell continued.

Harrell also touched on some of the changes coming to Vidant North and said oncology services will begin this spring.

“We are working hard to change what we do,” Harrell said. “It’s about our nurses having hearts for everyone who comes in.”
