ENT practice in Goldsboro joins Vidant Medical Group

“We are thrilled to have this group transition to Vidant Medical Group and look forward to continuing the efforts towards enhancing ear, nose and throat services in eastern North Carolina,” said Dr. Michael Waldrum, chief executive officer, Vidant Health. “We welcome the physicians and staff into the Vidant Health family and will work with them to continue to provide quality care to the patients they serve.”

Since 1978, Eastern ENT Sinus & Allergy Center has been known for utilizing the latest, modern clinical and diagnostic equipment to diagnose ear, nose and throat issues. They also specialize in allergy testing and treatment, speech evaluation and sleep disorders. 

Physicians include:


• Dr. Daniel Whitley, Jr. – Dr. Whitley attended North Carolina State University where he received his undergraduate degree in zoology. After obtaining his master’s degree in physiology he attended East Carolina School of Medicine and completed his residency at Duke University, where he was chief resident his final year. He has practiced at Eastern ENT Sinus & Allergy Center (formerly Goldsboro ENT) since 1988 and is its senior partner. His special interests include reflux and sleep medicine. 
• Dr. Michael D. Johnson – Dr. Johnson grew up in Washington, NC. He graduated from East Carolina University, went on to do some post-baccalaureate work at the University of North Carolina where he also attended medical school, and finished his residency at the University of Connecticut. He is married with three daughters. He has practiced at Eastern ENT Sinus & Allergy Center since 1993. His special interests include voice and cancer of the head and neck. He is board certified in sleep medicine. 
• Dr. David Cunningham – Dr. Cunningham comes to North Carolina from Philadelphia where he was born. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and also studied a year abroad at the University of Lancaster in Lancaster, England. He attended Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and completed his residencies at Bryn Mawr and Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals. He has served as an instructor at both Jefferson Medical College and the University of Pennsylvania. He was in private practice in Pennsylvania for sixteen years before joining Eastern ENT Sinus & Allergy Center in 2001. He is board certified in sleep medicine. 
• Tami C. Runyan, PA-C – Runyan graduated from the Rocky Mountain College Physician Assistant Program in Billings, MT, summa cum laude. She has practiced in family medicine, otology/neurotology, and has extensive experience in clinical and scientific research. Runyan also has a Bachelor degree from San Jose State University in the biological sciences. She has comprehensive experience in the evaluation and treatment of dizziness/vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus and other otologic concerns. 
• Wendy Griffin – Griffin has been employed as an audiologist with Eastern ENT Sinus & Allergy Center since 1992. Her academic background includes a bachelor degree in speech, language and auditory pathology from East Carolina University in 1986. This was followed by her Masters in Science specializing in audiology in 1988, also from East Carolina University. She is licensed by the North Carolina Audiology Board, as well as the North Carolina Hearing Aid Dealer’s and Fitter’s Board.

The practice has three locations including the 7,400 square foot central office on Medical Office Place in Goldsboro, the Sleep Diagnostic Center also on Medical Office Place in Goldsboro, Carteret Sleep Diagnostics Center in Morehead City, and the Clinton office with adjoining Sleep Diagnostic Center on Balsey Street in Clinton.
