Heart Attack Optimal Care
Optimal care for heart attack is treatment that meets guidelines for practices that have proven over time to get the best results.
A heart attack happens when one of the arteries that take blood to your heart is blocked. Part of the heart will die if it can’t get the oxygen and blood it needs. The medical term for a heart attack is an acute myocardial infarction, or AMI. (You may see that term on some of the charts on our web pages.)
To survive a heart attack, you must receive the right treatment at the right time.
The Joint Commission, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and other national organizations have helped collect the information to write standards of treatment for serious medical conditions such as heart attack.
