Understanding Your Bill

We understand that hospital bills can be confusing. To help, we have put together frequently asked questions,commonly used terms, and picture explanations of statements. We also have financial counselors available to answer your questions. You may call them at 252-847-4472 or toll free 800-788-4473 Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 5 p.m.

If you have been a patient at one of the hospitals of Vidant Health, you will receive a mailing within 30 days of the date you received services. If you have health insurance, the first mailing you will receive is a financial statement showing what Vidant Health has billed to your insurance. Insurance companies normally respond within 30 days of receiving a statement. Once your insurance company responds, a bill will be sent from the hospital where you received services outlining your remaining financial responsibility, if any.

If you do not have insurance,  you will directly receive a bill from a Vidant Health hospital for services. If you have questions about your account or would like to discuss a  payment plan, please contact a Vidant Health financial counselor.

Please note that you will receive a separate bill from your physician for professional fees. If  you have questions about these bills, please contact your physician's office.
